Can I take my Yamaha product overseas?
All Yamaha equipment purchased from Authorised Dealers are designed specifically for use here in Australia. The power supplies are designed for use with 240 volts AC. For use with other mains voltages please contact the Yamaha distributor in the country of your destination.
-
Can I use my overseas purchased Yamaha product here in Australia?
Yes. However, most products purchased overseas operate with a different AC voltage, in which case a transformer may be required. These transformers can be purchased from electronic parts retailers like Dick Smith Electronics and Jaycar Electronics. Please contact these retailers for more information.
-
Does Yamaha Music Australia have an International Warranty?
Each country that distributes and sells Yamaha products sets it own warranty conditions according to the demands and requirements of the local market. If you have purchased a unit overseas these warranty terms and conditions only apply to the country the unit was purchased in.
-
My unit has faulted within the warranty period. What do I do?

What is the warranty period for my Yamaha AV receiver?
Yamaha Music Australia provides a two year warranty for AV receivers. Any additional warranty periods are provided by dealers. Warranty issues that arise after the two years from the original date of purchase will be referred to the dealer where the unit was purchased.
-
Some of the functions have stopped working on my receiver, what should I do?
Before sending the unit to an authorized service centre, it is a good idea to try to reset the unit as this may clear any software errors which may have occurred. The factory reset procedure for your receiver can be located in the owner’s manual that came with your unit. If this procedure can not be located in the owner’s manual, please contact the Yamaha Music Australia customer support line on 1300 739 411
If the factory reset procedure did not solve the problem then please locate your nearest Authorised Yamaha Service Centre.
-
Can I stack other components on top of my receiver?
Your receiver or amplifier should not have anything placed on top of it. Vents are located on the top panel of the receiver and are used to dissipate heat; these vents should be clear at all times. Ventilation space should also be available around the unit. The specifications for space required for adequate heat dissipation can be located in the front pages of the receiver’s owner’s manual.
-
Why does my receiver turn it self off?
The unit is going into protection because a fault has been detected either internally or externally. In this situation, turn the unit off and disconnect the speakers and A/V equipment from the unit. If the unit now remains on, a fault may have occurred with an external component (i.e. speakers or DVD player) If the receiver continues to turn off then the unit has an internal fault and will need to be taken to an Authorised Yamaha Service Centre.
-
Which speaker impedance setting do I choose?
Each Yamaha receiver is different and may require a particular setting to be made before connecting the speakers. Earlier model Yamaha receivers have an impedance selector switch located on the rear panel of the unit. The position of this switch is determined by the number of speakers and impedance rating of each speaker that will be connected to the receiver. Please refer to your receiver’s owner’s manual for this information. The impedance rating of each speaker can be located at the rear of the speaker and is measured in Ohms.
Newer model Yamaha receivers have an electronic impedance selector switch which can be accessed with a button sequence on the front panel of the unit, as not all receivers are the same please refer to your receiver’s owner’s manual for this information. The impedance rating of each speaker can be located at the rear of the speaker and is measured in Ohms.
-
There are no remote control codes at the back of the owner’s manual for my other components, does Yamaha have additional codes?
While we strive to keep an extensive code library, it is not possible to include every single item from every manufacturer stored in the remote control. The lists of codes shown in the owner’s manual were programmed into the remote from the factory and are the only codes available for your remote. If your component is not listed in the owner’s manual and your remote does not have the ability to learn new functions then you will not be able control your component with the Yamaha receiver remote. You might wish to try entering some other codes from the same product category (i.e.; TV’s, VCR's, etc.).
-
Why can I hear the sound but can’t see the picture?
Firstly ensure you have selected the same input that you have used to connect the external equipment to the receiver. For example you will need to select the DVD input on the receiver if you have connected the DVD player to the input labeled DVD on the back of the receiver. If you have connected the video output from your equipment (e.g. DVD player) directly to your TV ensure you have selected the correct AV channel on the TV. If you have connected both audio and video connections directly to the receiver refer to the information below.
Yamaha receivers have the ability to up-convert a video signal to a higher picture quality, for example if you have a VCR that uses a composite video connection (red, white and yellow RCA) you have the option of using either the composite, s-video, component (red, blue and green RCA) or HDMI monitor output to route the video signal to your TV. These specifications will differ depending on each model, please refer to your owner’s manual.
Video up-conversion is not available on all Yamaha receivers, so in this case the same video format must be used for both the video input and monitor output as shown below.
Yamaha receivers also have the ability to rename and reassign audio and video inputs. You can assign jacks according to the component to be used if this unit’s initial settings do not correspond to your needs. For example if you only have a coaxial digital output on your DVD player and the coaxial digital input on your Yamaha receiver is labeled CD, this does not mean that only a CD player can be used with this input. With the setup menu and accessing the I/O assignment sub menu you can re-assign the CD coaxial input to DVD which means when the DVD input is selected on the receiver you will hear the audio playing from the DVD player.
-
My receiver is only showing the left and right speaker on the display, why can’t I get surround sound?
The speaker indicators on the right hand side of the display are used to show what type of signal the receiver is receiving from that particular input.
The graphic below shows every possible indicator which can be displayed on this receiver. With all speaker indicators shown the receiver will be receiving a 6.1 signal from the particular input. This will be the case if a DVD player is sending a 6.1sound track and is connected to the receiver using the digital inputs. If the receiver is receiving a stereo sound track from either the analog or digital connections the L and R speaker indicators will be shown. This will be the case with stereo signals from a CD player, DVD player, VCR, set top box and satellite box using either the analog or digital connections.
Yamaha receivers are equipped with stereo and multi-channel DSP (Digital Signal Processing). This means the unit is equipped with a variety of precise digital decoders that allow you to enjoy multi-channel playback from almost any sound source (stereo or multi-channel). This means even though the receiver is receiving a stereo signal you still have the ability to output the sound to all of the speakers and vice versa. Please refer to your owner’s manual for a complete description of each sound field program your receiver is equipped with.
-
How do I setup the Zone 2 feature on my receiver?
Firstly you must ensure that the inputs you want to send to another zone are connected using the analog connections input sources connected via the digital connections can not be sent to another zone.
Secondly you must decide whether you will be using the receiver’s internal amplifier or an external amplifier. If you are using the internal amplifier you must select INT by accessing the setup menu and selecting multi zone sub menu. To access the setup menu please refer to your owner’s manual.
When using the internal amplifier the Zone 2 speakers must be connected to the PRESENCE/ZONE 2 speaker terminals on the back of the receiver.
When using an external amplifier you must access the setup menu, select the multi zone sub menu and select the EXT option.
When using the external amplifier the Zone 2 amplifier must be connected to the ZONE 2 Output RCA terminals on the back of the receiver.
-
Why is there no sound from the sub-woofer?
Firstly ensure you have connected the active sub woofer to the correct port on the back of the receiver and the sub woofer is turned on. The sub woofer should be connected to the pre out terminal labeled SUB WOOFER with a single RCA cable.
Some Yamaha receivers have the ability to adjust the sub woofer settings. The sub woofer settings can be accessed with the setup menu. Low-frequency (bass) signals can be directed to the subwoofer and/or the front left and right speakers according to the characteristics of your system. This setting also determines the routing of the LFE (low frequency effect) signals found in Dolby Digital or DTS sources. Enter the setup menu and select the Sound Menu, select the Bass Out sub menu and choose the BOTH option. This option will send all bass signals to the sub woofer.

I have a 7.1 receiver but I am using only five speakers and a sub woofer, which speaker terminals do I use for the rear speakers.
In the situation of a 5.1 speaker set up the rear speakers need to be connected to the surround terminals and are positioned on the side at the back of the listening position facing slightly inwards. (Labeled as SL and SR in the graphic below)
In the situation of a 7.1 speaker set up the additional two speakers need to be connected to the surround back terminals and should be positioned directly behind the listening position. (Labeled as SBL and SBR in the graphic below)

I have a 7.1 receiver with all seven speakers and sub woofer connected. Why can’t I hear any sound coming from the surround back speakers?
The multi-channel sound tracks found on most DVD movies are mixed in 5.1 Dolby Digital. As this is the case there are no dedicated audio tracks for the surround back speakers. This means that a decoder must be used to send audio to the surround back speakers. This is achieved by accessing the surround enhanced modes by pressing the corresponding button on the remote control (the function of each Yamaha receiver may vary depending on the model, please refer to your receiver’s owner’s manual for more information)
You can select from the following decoders depending on the format of the source you are playing.
The same principle applies to stereo sources. If you want to listen to a stereo source (e.g. CD, VCR, set top box) through all seven speakers you must select the appropriate decoder. This is achieved by accessing the surround standard modes by pressing the corresponding button on the remote control (the function of each Yamaha receiver may vary depending on the model, please refer to your receiver’s owner’s manual for more information)
You can select from the following decoders depending on the format of the source you are playing.

What is the warranty period for my Yamaha DVD player?
Yamaha Music Australia provides a two year warranty for DVD players. Any additional warranty periods are provided by dealers. Warranty issues that arise after the two years from the original date of purchase will be referred to the dealer where the unit was purchased.

I am playing a Dolby Digital 5.1 disc so why is the receiver playing back in stereo?
Firstly, confirm that your digital connection (optical or coaxial) is securely made between your DVD player and 5.1 channel receiver. The Dolby Digital 5.1 signal is only transmitted out from the digital outputs on the back of the DVD player as shown below.
You will not receive the Dolby Digital 5.1 signal if you are using a standard stereo RCA cable connected to the analog audio outputs on the back of the DVD player as shown below.
Once you can confirm all cables are connected correctly you can now check the internal settings of the DVD player. With the DVD player in the "stop" mode, access the DVD player’s setup menu by pressing the setup button on the remote control. Using the cursor buttons on the remote, navigate to the Audio setup page
Select the Digital Audio option, and then select the Digital Output sub menu. This menu will have three options as shown below. In order to output Dolby Digital 5.1 from the digital output you will need to select the ALL option. To exit the setup menu, press the setup button on the remote control.
-
I am playing a DTS DVD, so why am I only receiving a Dolby Digital signal?
The DTS sound track on a DVD will be one of three sound tracks available on the disc. A DTS disc will have a stereo, Dolby Digital and DTS soundtrack to choose from. Most discs have an option menu, which allows you to make certain selections regarding audio, language, and other special features. Under the audio option menu, you will find the various selections for the type of sound track you wish to select. You will need to select the DTS playback option in the disc menu each time you play the disc.
-
Can I play a DVD I have purchased overseas with my Yamaha DVD player?
Since it is usual for DVD movies to be released at different times in different regions of the world, all players have region codes. Yamaha DVD players purchased in Australia will read discs labeled Region 4 and discs labeled Region ALL. If you load a disc of a different region code to this unit, you will see the region code notice on the screen. The disc will not playback, and should be unloaded.
-
An error code that is not listed in the trouble shooting guide has appeared on the front panel of the unit. What should I do?
These error messages indicate that an internal fault has occurred and should only be serviced by an Authorised Yamaha Service Centre.
